I would just appreciate some follow up on the bike lane situation - my fellow business owners felt that you may not be following up on the parking issues we discussed - should we be following up with you on this, city hall, the media?

Just wanted to point out that the European experience has been that wherever cycling amenities are put in place in a comercial area,
even if car parking is reduced, business increases from the higher local street traffic.
Poeple who pass by more slowly, either walking or cycling, are more likely to stop on impulse.

I'd like to remind Mr. Saundercook of his commitment to bicycle lanes that he made during the 2006 elections. The merchants on Annette street seem to forget that cyclists are shoppers, too. Since when have we become so spoiled that we need parking in front of the stores? This is not the norm... you only have to look as far as the suburbs to confirm it. As for delivery vehicles unable to access laneways, this is a simple logistical issue that can be worked out. The battle for bicycle lanes along Annette street has just begun!

On the subject of infrastructure embracing human powered transportation why is the Queensway/South Kingsway agglomeration planned to be rebuilt as presently configured? This area is hostile to pedestrians and bicyclists to the extreme. Queensway between Windermere and Stephen Dr is a nightmare for these parties with lack of sidewalks, expressway type ramps and motor vehicles routinely exceeding 80 kph. The Queensway is hostile with its missing sidewalks and lack of cycling infrastructure fostering aggressive driving and this is among the most severe examples of that planning.

Hello!
I am a business owner and homeowner on Annette. Please, bring in the bike lanes!! We would love it - more bikes fewer cars. I'm not stressed about parking - I agree with the comments about Europe. We want to be a city more like european cities, not more like north american suburbia. I heard a rumor that the bike lanes are being shifted to St. John's? This would be a shame since bikers will still use Annette on their way to and from Dupont and mid/downtown.

Further to the bike lane situation on Annette...I am truly appalled by the recent decision to divert bike traffic from Annette to St.John's between Runnymede and Jane. As others have stated in this blog, bikes need a place to travel and should not be inconvenienced by some business owners who think reducing parking on Annette will adversely affect their business. These are 'local' businesses and anyone that needs to drive to these places should really think about their 'footprint' on the environment.

When will this city and it's councillors come together with a unified vision for something like bike lanes. Toronto is comprised of designated 'routes' through neighbourhoods along with certain major streets having restricted bike lanes, but all of this lends more to a nice, casual, Sunday stroll, rather than an effective, 'green' method of getting where you need to go.

Come on Toronto. Come on Bill. Let's get some priorities straight - without a right, a left and another left to get from Annette and Runnymede to Annette and Jane on a bike!

I believe bike lanes continuing to Jane along Annette rather than diverting to St. John's Rd would probably be good for business, for the reasons Bruce mentions. I'm unsure of which businesses are opposed to the bike lanes on Annette, besides the Flower Room, who have posted a sign on the door indicating that "We support Bike Lanes BUT customers need parking too".

Bill, I urge you to truly support Bike Lanes and not divert the path to St.John's.

I often see people riding on the sidewalk to avoid being on the road, which is unsafe for pedestrians as well.

I support the creation of bike lanes on Annette. We should accommodate those who choose to be green and live a healthy lifestyle!

On another note... it baffles me how there are not any basketball facilities in High Park. Basketball is the fastest growing sport in Toronto and it should be represented in the Toronto's largest park.

I hear there was another Annette bike lanes meeting on Sept 15th. Again, I had no notice of this meeting at all and did not attend. What is the new plan for Annette bike lanes? I certainly hope the St.John's diversion is not the official plan now. How can a citywide bike lanes agenda/network really work when there are all these piddly diversions??
